Brown tones
Chocolate, cocoa, camel and deep coffee. Brown has quietly taken over from black as the neutral worth building around — softer against the skin, warmer in daylight, and far less flat in photographs.
Why it works
Brown flatters a wider range of skin tones than black and reads as considered rather than default. It is also one of the easiest neutrals to tonal-dress: three different browns in one outfit looks deliberate in a way three blacks never quite manages.
How to wear it
The simplest version is head-to-toe in one family — a chocolate knit with camel trousers, or a brown co-ord worn as a set. If that feels like a lot, start with one piece: brown denim, a chocolate blazer or a camel knit will slot straight into what you already own.
Brown sits beautifully with cream, butter yellow and soft pink, and looks expensive against olive. It is the one neutral that makes gold jewellery look better than silver.
